Who knew selfies were so dangerous? Not the selfie queen Kim Kardashian.
She's always been open about her health struggles, but this one was quite possibly stemmed from being a narcissist.
In this week’s episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, we learned that during filming, Kim was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome — a painful side effect of taking too many selfies. She struggled to open a pickle jar, she needed a producer who is usually off-camera to pretend to be Kim's arm taking a selfie, she was having trouble bending her wrist. What's the ultimate selfie taker to do?
Well, probably in order to avoid a co-pay, Kim dragged the cameras along to her doctor so he could get some publicity and she could find a cure. He diagnosed her with “selfie wrist” and advised she wear a brace on her wrist. Just make sure it's Yeezy approved!
It's the right hand. Clearly, she's suffering. No phone. See?
Carpal tunnel, also a common side effect of pregnancy, is experiencing numbness, pain, tingling, and burning to the point where you can’t even move your hand. It happens when the nerve that goes from the forearm to the hand is compressed by swollen tendons or other swelling. Because your elbow is flexed during selfies, it’s contributing to the problem.
The Washington Post has reported on the tech-related injury, saying “inflammation from taking selfies…happens because you're extending your arm but also trying to keep a firm grip on your phone as you do — something that the body just isn't designed to do often.”
Luckily, it’s pretty easy to treat Kim’s injury with “rest, ice, changing habits, regular shoulder and wrist rolls.” And a rest from selfies.
